John Piper and ‘Wasting Your Cancer’.

** Original post removed **

As I am continually growing in my faith, I have decided to remove this post because I am not entirely sure anymore that it is teaching sound doctrine.

I’ll rather err on the safe side than to potentially lead people astray and away from Jesus Christ.

Keep on continually seeking the true teachings of Jesus Christ as it relates to the saving Gospel, so we may know Jesus.

  1. People like John Piper are worth of no use. I have heard some sermons in which he doesn’t believe in prosperity. In my opinion LIFE consists of Righteousness, Health, Wealth, Peace & Fellowship. DEATH contains Sin, Sickness, Poverty, Sorrow & Separation. Adam purchased Death and Christ purchased Life and gave it as salvation for those who believe. But I wonder how many Christians believe one part of salvation(righteousness) and discard other parts.

If God is okay to live with cancer then the same God must be okay to live in sin. If sickness can bring glory to God so is sin!!

    • my husband has stage 4 cancer which although highly treatable is not curable. We were given this article by well meaning Christians from our church who thought it would help. Both my husband and I were definately not helped in any way by it and ended up feeling more confused and frustrated after reading it. First of all John Piper was cured of his cancer so he really can’t relate to what nearly 4 years of chemotherapy and muliple hospitalizations can do to even the strongest of Christians .Some OF THE COMMENTS we’ve had to hear from fellow Christians can just blow your mind as if the illness doesn’t test your faith enough you have all these people if you make even the simplest of comments interpreting them as a lack of faith .We have one man whose first question[ everytime we’re fortunate enough to have a good day and attend church] are you living by faith ? some days we are so bleary eyed from a 4;30 am start for Dr, visits labs ect that we don’t even know our own names.

      • Cheryl, I wish I could apologize on behalf of the body of Christ for the mess we have made of the truth, and the insensitivity that is often the result. We have been taught so many things that are the polar opposite of what the New Testament (NT) teaches — things that seem to “make sense to a man” but only serve to hide truth rather than reveal it.

But first, the immediate issue: I hope I’m not too late, but I didn’t get an email notification about your post until today. All that is needed for anyone to be healed by faith in Jesus Christ — is faith. Doesn’t matter WHO’s faith, but faith, the real thing, is required.

Anyone, Christian or not, who needs healing today, should call the people who consistently get the job done: JGLM is the name of Curry Blake’s organization. Especially if you or someone you know is within days or hours of death, this is the number to call:

        (800)566-5456

If its an emergency, you will be directed to Curry himself. If he is in the middle of a training session, which is likely, he may call you back, but it will be a matter of minutes if that’s the case. So don’t be discouraged — leave a message, especially your phone number, hang up and wait. Understand, you have done what you can do and that’s all you can do for the moment, so relax. If the patient dies before Curry calls, don’t freak out and don’t let anyone take the body away. He will call and if its too late to heal, he will raise the dead — over the phone. I’m very serious. It is no more difficult to raise the dead to a healed body than it is to heal the living or to say “your sins are forgiven”. Get it? This stuff is simpler than we think it is, and there are people out there in the body of Christ who do this sort of thing every day. No one has 100% success, but Curry Blake is at the top of that list. He’s not a showoff and he’s not rich, though he could be; he has been healing and teaching accurately biblical faith for decades. You should find him on Youtube and learn what the NT really has to say about faith, power, about God and about your own identity in Christ. If you are a true seeker, this is where you need to be.

About faith: When the man admitted to Jesus that he probably didn’t have faith, Jesus healed his boy anyway, and as a man, Jesus did so by faith. He had to come as a man to be our example. If Jesus healed because he is God, then we’ve got nothing. We’re not God so his teachings and demonstrations (“you feed the 4000”) are useless to us, which leaves us floating around helplessly in the same ocean of confusion as everyone else. No. Jesus demonstrated faith. Constantly. It’s how the kingdom on earth works and its the only way the kingdom works, at least from our perspective. Jesus said so over and over and over…

  2. This type of teaching that this pastor prescripts is the reason I resisted Christianity for more the half my life. Why would I want to worship a God that wanted me to suffer? Life was hard enough without Him and He was going to make me suffer more? Yet in the same breath they would say God is good and you should be a christian. Under those conditions, no thank you!

Here are some things I’ve heard Christians say How about “I must be doing something right because I’m suffering?”. “There is a silver lining in all your suffering” or how about “Your suffering because God is burnishing you to gold.”

I began reading the bible for myself to learn about God and I was stunned at what I was finding out. That God in Christ Jesus was a different God then what was being promoted in society. He had nothing but good for his people and was urging with them to follow and obey him so they could have only good. And for the christian He lets us know that there is an enemy on this earth but he had given us dominion, power, authority and every weapon to beat the enemy in any and all situations. I had then wondered to myself if Christians had even read their own bible.

Needless to say, God lead me to his son and I was saved! If Christians would just read and study the bible for themselves and spend time with God daily they would have a lot more understanding and not fall prey to erroneous teachings. The kind of teaching that God does bad to do you good is also in many christian movies too. Where a person in the movie is a christian but his kid gets killed in an accident, now why would anyone want to worship a God that doesn’t protect his people? The blood of Jesus, Psalms 91, people. I don’t like the victim mentality I often see in christian circles. God in Christ Jesus has given us everything we need or could have want in the life but it’s not automatic we have to go get it.

When I discovered the teachings of Curry Blake I thought FINALLY a leader that is telling IT! Curry Blake “I don’t have time to be nice to you” I LOVE IT! A warrior. To many Christians always want to be coddled; I want the truth.

I enjoy reading articles, you’re a good writer. May the light of Christ continue to shine bright in you and may He keep you in all your ways.

    Your fellow warrior in Christ.

  3. I think John Piper reveals what most Christians really believe regarding who God is and how he relates to us in the following statements:

“What God permits, he permits for a reason. And that reason is his design. If God foresees molecular developments becoming cancer, he can stop it or not. If he does not, he has a purpose.”

This appallingly destructive view assumes that God is always the “decider” on a minute by minute basis. Nothing happens that he hasn’t approved, either by causing it or allowing it, and the proof is — it happened.

We respond by continually begging for favors and waiting for his decisions. If the favor occurs, he answered our prayer. If not, we can only speculate, imagining how God is still in complete control somehow. And THAT’S what now defines us — our newly adopted paradigm of utter defeat: We’ll die of cancer, screaming in pain, our families now destitute with medical bills, BUT – we’ll die with the peace that surpasses understanding deep in our hearts. Ahh, that is comforting, isn’t it.

Conversely, there is biblical Truth: Jesus was superman. Every cancer that approached him was instantly destroyed. He told us to do the same things, to assert the authority He died for and heal, deliver, free, and feed his little lambs. We must get this. He loves us so much.

  4. Yesterday there was Leprosy. Today there is Cancer. Jesus said to the leper, I am willing to heal you. Jesus hasn’t changed….. Third world countries are reporting a vast increase in Christian healing and Excorcism, whilst in Western societies healing services are still widely not accepted as part of the normal ministry. Are we becoming too blinkered by intellectual persuasion ethics and church politics? Cancer begins in the body 2 years before diagnosis. Often it’s triggered by emotional significant events where we become vulnerable to allow our emotions to become rife, in many cases just a sime act of forgiveness and letting go is enough to kick start the immune system. Jesus says he has come to give us life- that’s mental, physical and spiritual.

  6. Kate: I agree with your general premise, but don’t be afraid to take it all the way. You are right – Jesus has not changed. He had to come as a man to be our example, and he said we will do greater works than he did. He commanded us to simply “heal the sick” and more. At one point he said to some unbelievers “If you don’t believe my words, then believe because of the works that I do. And if I don’t do them, then don’t believe me.” Kate, there is no need to figure out how to avoid cancer. I know it sounds crazy (at first) but it is easier than you think to heal people of any infirmity – right there on the spot – just because He lives in us. We speak directly to the problem, and we know Christ always wants to heal. Actually its more like we pick a fight with the problem (never the person), realizing that this fight was won 2000 years ago. I’m still a puppy myself, but it is becoming easier to heal as I keep trying. I have seen open sores fill in and cover with new skin (overnight), “I” have healed internal stitches that had been ripped soon after an operation, in that case on a telephone call; migraines immediately gone… If you are born again, I promise, you can learn to appropriate healings by faith, which is also much easier to understand (this kind of faith) than we tend to think. This is why Paul said that the gospel is not just words, but must come with power. I have friends who heal every day, and I can honestly claim a dozen or two that God has healed by my speaking his word into someones body. You won’t believe the difference it makes when you tell them about Christ. This is the yoke that is easy! And it is such a privelige to be able to deliver these wonderful gifts. We sit with Him on high and operate from a victory already secured for us – for them. Look into Curry Blake; best trainer for this stuff anywhere. Praise God for Curry. Don’t be afraid, Kate. This is for you.

    • I am reading and learning, spurred on by terrible news of a lovely young wife diagnosed today with a form of lymphoma and 16 weeks pregnant, a sweet and fun Christian wife, half of a darling couple. Steve Walker, I would like to learn more and your words posted above on 6.1.14 and 8.25.14 speak to me. Thank you.

  7. “If I interpret this correctly, Pastor Piper feels that cancer may be the result of sin. This is in no way a Biblical teaching.”

Yes, it’s true that God is always pro-health and pro-life, and that He doesn’t put sickness on people to teach them something. Sickness is of the devil, and he is behind it.

That being said, sickness can result from the consequences of sin. It’s sowing and reaping. Sinning gives an opportunity, a window for the devil to exploit and afflict a person. It’s still illegal for the devil to put sickness on that person, but the person makes it easy for the devil to do so by sinning.

For example, if a person smokes persistently and excessively, the devil may exploit that weakness and lack of self-control, so that lung cancer may result.

Jesus graciously healed a sick sinner, and then He warned him to stop sinning or he may get sick even worse.in John 5:14:

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, you are made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto you.

Luke 11:26 and Matthew 12:45 teach us an evil spirit may come back to a person, and if the person makes it easy for it to re-enter, the evil spirit will bring in his pals, and the person will be in much worse condition.

Bottom line is: Go and sin no more. Be filled with the Holy Spirit, and give no place, no foothold to the devil.
